Our Mission

Hello there! We are the Ethan and Owen Hope Foundation. Our mission is to bring love and comfort to the parents of Banner Thunderbird NICU and Labor and Delivery who leave the hospital with empty arms. We have put together care packages of items that we have found helpful along our own personal bereavement journey in hopes that it can bring a little comfort to these sweet families.

About Us

Owen James Casey 5/27/15 - 5/22/2016

My son Owen spent the entire year of his life in the hospital. 5 months at banner thunderbird and his last 7 months at Phoenix children’s before he got his wings on 5-22-16. My experience was different than Jenine’s or maybe other families. We kind of saw it coming due to our choice of limiting our child’s care after he fought day in and day out for an entire year. He had open heart surgery, a trach, endless chest tubes,  went into cardiac arrest and was on ECMO for a week, then had seizures, later his protein was leaking out into his tissues and ended up getting a blood clot in his heart. That’s just a little piece of the roller coaster that was his life (our lives). Although we made the decision to limit his care there is nothing that can prepare you for the day your child’s heart stops beating in your arms. The day that all your hopes and dreams of what should’ve been are gone.  It truly means a lot to me to be able to share some of our story of that precious boy of ours who is now our angel!  Thank you for letting me share my story.

Ethan Emery Slocum 5/18/17 - 10/27/2017

Ethan was born at 24 weeks on May 18th 2017.  We were at Banner Thunderbird NICU for 5 months with our son.  Ethan was growing each and every day and he was STRONG!  He brought so much joy and happiness to not only our family but all of the loving and amazing nurses and physicians at Banner Thunderbird.  Even though every day was a fight for him he always gave us and everyone at the NICU a smile that was contagious.  He passed away unexpectedly on October 27th 2017 and not a day goes by where he is not missed or thought of.  We created this foundation to continue his legacy and to help others that have dealt with child loss.  We have met so many amazing people through our tragedy but his light continues to shine though us.
